Academic Opportunities

The Janklow Arts Leadership Program is housed in the Department of Art and Music Histories, one of the oldest in the country, dedicated to the study of the arts in an interdisciplinary setting. The department was established in 1947 by cultural historian William Fleming, whose publications serve as a model for SU's approach to the arts in relation to their cultural, social, economic, and political contexts. Launching in the summer of 2012, the Janklow Arts Leadership Program continues SU's commitment to arts teaching, policy work, research, service, and enterprise.

The program also affords you opportunities to:

• Study with Mark Nerenhausen, a professor of practice with significant arts administration experience, and with high-profile faculty members in music, theater, art, and museum studies

• Interface with the Goldring Arts Journalism Program, the Bandier Program for Music and the Entertainment Industries, and the Museum Studies Program

• Participate in symposia, lectures, and other scholarly activities, sponsored by various SU schools and colleges, The SU Humanities Center, and community partners

• Conduct research in the SU and Law libraries, collectively containing more than 3 million volumes; 22,000 serials and periodicals; 7 million microforms; 16,000 databases and computer files; and one million CDs, films, photograhs, videotapes, and slides

• Enjoy the city's vibrant arts scene, which includes the Connective Corridor; museums; galleries; film festivals; opera, stage, and dance companies; and bands and orchestras

• Live and study in historic Central New York--in close proximity to such cosmopolitan centers as New York City; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Boston; Buffalo; Cleveland; Toronto; Ottawa; Montreal; and Quebec
